About SCORE

Nationally, SCORE is America’s largest volunteer business counseling service.  Founded in 1964, it is a nonprofit association dedicated to help those in small business, about to start one, or just thinking about it.  SCORE is headquartered in Washington D. C. and has 370 chapters located through out the United States.  It is a resource partner of the U. S. Small Business Administration and sponsored, in part, by the SBA.  The local chapters are staffed with over 12,400 volunteers, who are selected for their business experience and high ethical standards.  SCORE has earned its great reputation as “Counselors to America’s Small Business” with years of outstanding assistance to small business.

SCORE SE Wisconsin is part of the national organization. SCORE SE Wisconsin serves the ten county area of southeast Wisconsin – Dodge, Jefferson, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Walworth, Washington, and Waukesha counties.  SCORE SE Wisconsin, Chapter 28, was founded in 1965 and currently has over 50 members whose only goal is to help our clients succeed.  We do this by providing FREE and CONFIDENTIAL counseling/mentoring (either in-person, over-the-phone or by e-mail) and low cost workshops.

Our members are all successful senior managers or business owners.  They come from a wide variety of business backgrounds and experience – accounting, advertising, banking, human resources, marketing, manufacturing, restaurants, real estate, retail, sales, and wholesaling to mention a few.  In addition to the local members, we have access to the over 11,600 members nationally.  It would be hard to find an area of business for which SCORE does not have a counselor with relevant experience.

Some of our clients had been in business for a period of time but needed some assistance.  How could they better market their product or service?  What steps could they take to grow their business?  What is the best method to finance their operation?  Other clients are start-up entrepreneurs.  SCORE helps them with the many steps they must go through to facilitate a successful opening day and the hard first months of their new business.
